Opposition leaders belonging to the INDIA bloc have formulated a month-long protest calendar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, pointing to allegations of electoral malpractice and vote theft. The planned demonstrations encompass a series of sit-ins and marches across multiple strategic locations in New Delhi, including Akashwani Bhavan, Jantar Mantar, Rajghat, Parliament, and a planned march toward Rashtrapati Bhavan.
A delegation consisting of ten prominent opposition figures, among them Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Mamata Banerjee, Supriya Sule, Manoj Jha, and Omar Abdullah, moved to formally press their demands. Simultaneously, other participating party leaders organized sit-in demonstrations at Vijay Chowk to voice their discontent.
The protests follow a period of political tension surrounding recent electoral outcomes and by-polls across states like West Bengal, Assam, Puducherry, and Rajasthan, where the ruling BJP secured key victories while dismissing opposition claims regarding election losses. As the INDIA bloc moves forward with its demonstrations, Delhi Police have established security measures and barricades around Raisina Hill to manage the parliamentary marches toward the presidential estate.
