Sovima: Mizoram batter Chinmay Sutar entered the record books on Monday by becoming only the second player in the history of the Ranji Trophy to score a quadruple century. The left-handed batsman achieved the remarkable milestone during a Plate Division match against Nagaland at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima.
With this marathon knock, Sutar joined an elite and exclusive club of cricketers who have crossed the 400-run threshold in a single first-class innings, rubbing shoulders with legendary names like Brian Lara and Don Bradman. Prior to Sutar's historic achievement, Maharashtra's BB Nimbalkar held the sole record in Indian domestic cricket for his unbeaten 443 against Kathiawar in Pune back in 1948.
Sutar's journey to this landmark performance followed a strong start to his stint with Mizoram, having previously played for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In his very first appearance for Mizoram, he narrowly missed out on a three-figure score after being run out for 99.
During his record-breaking innings, Sutar struck 46 boundaries and seven towering sixes. He was batting on 231 when the final batter, Lalrempuia, joined him at the crease. Sutar continued to dominate the bowling attack, eventually finishing unbeaten on 400 runs from 517 deliveries before Mizoram declared their innings at 581 for nine.
