The Indian Coast Guard has formally commissioned its latest indigenous Fast Patrol Vessel, ICGS Ajit, at Goa Shipyard Limited. The event marks an important milestone in bolstering the country's maritime defense infrastructure and advancing the national goal of self-reliance in military manufacturing.

The commissioning ceremony took place with Dr Sirish Choudhary, IDAS, Principal Integrated Financial Advisor for the Indian Coast Guard, presiding over the proceedings as the chief guest.

Following its induction, ICGS Ajit will be stationed at Okha. The vessel features modern control systems and advanced weaponry, enabling it to perform multiple critical missions including maritime surveillance, search and rescue operations, anti-smuggling efforts, and marine pollution response.

Deployment of the new patrol vessel underscores the increasing importance of domestic shipbuilding in securing India's vast coastline. By relying on locally designed and constructed platforms, the maritime agency aims to enhance its preparedness against emerging security threats and emergency situations at sea.

The addition of ICGS Ajit aligns closely with the broader Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which emphasizes boosting domestic defense production capabilities and minimizing reliance on foreign military imports.
