Five people were discovered dead from gunshot wounds inside a residence in the northern Chicago suburb of Mundelein late Sunday night, October 18, in an apparent murder-suicide. Local law enforcement responded to the home located in the 200 block of Wellington Avenue at 11:45 p.m. to conduct a welfare check after a family member reported being unable to contact their relatives.

First responders entered the property and located three men and two women deceased. Initial findings from the ongoing investigation indicate all five victims suffered close-range handgun wounds. Authorities stated that four of the deceased individuals were members of the same family, while the fifth person was involved in a domestic relationship with the suspected perpetrator. Two firearms were recovered from the scene.

The Mundelein Police Department is actively investigating the tragedy alongside the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force. Investigators have emphasized that the event is considered isolated and that there is no ongoing danger to the general public. Officials have not yet publicly disclosed the identities of the victims, the identity of the suspected shooter, or a potential motive for the violence. Prior to the late-night call, police confirmed they had no previous records of service calls at the residence.

Local residents expressed shock and sorrow over the incident in the typically quiet neighborhood. Several neighbors identified the long-term homeowners as a retired couple who previously operated a veterinary clinic in nearby Libertyville, describing them as quiet, friendly, and well-liked members of the community. A former employee also voiced profound grief, remembering them as exceptional employers.

Investigators were seen removing bodies from the residence early Monday morning as processing of the scene continued. Authorities have requested that anyone possessing relevant information regarding the shooting contact the Mundelein police department.
