The Bharatiya Janata Party has achieved a decisive win in the Nandigram Assembly bypoll in West Bengal, as party nominee Hasi Rani Rath defeated her closest competitor, Milan Pradhan of the Indian National Congress, by a substantial margin of 1,22,753 votes.

Data from the Election Commission of India indicates that Rath accumulated 1,64,427 total votes, which included 1,63,630 votes from electronic voting machines and 797 postal ballots. Her total share accounted for 75.94 percent of all votes cast during the election.

Meanwhile, Pradhan took second place with 41,674 total votes, consisting of 41,521 EVM votes and 153 postal votes, translating to 19.25 percent of the total vote share.

The necessity for the Nandigram by-election arose after West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari relinquished the seat to keep Bhabanipur, following his victory in both constituencies during the 2026 Assembly elections against former chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

This electoral contest drew significant attention as a preliminary test for the current BJP administration, which had previously ended the Trinamool Congress's 15-year governance in West Bengal earlier in the year.
