New Delhi: Zimbabwe Women have announced a 15-member squad for their historic white-ball tour of India, marking the first-ever bilateral series between the two nations. Captain Josephine Nkomo will lead the side in an assignment that presents Zimbabwe with an opportunity to build on their recent breakthrough in international cricket.
The tour will feature three T20Is followed by three ODIs, with the ODI fixtures forming part of the ICC Women’s Championship. The T20I matches are scheduled for October 16, 18, and 20 at Nava Raipur in Chhattisgarh, before the action moves to the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium in Vadodara for the ODIs on October 23, 25, and 28.
Zimbabwe enters the series with renewed confidence following a landmark victory over West Indies Women at the Harare Sports Club. The four-wicket triumph marked Zimbabwe's first-ever win against the West Indies and their maiden victory in the ICC Women’s Championship, highlighted by disciplined bowling and composure during a difficult run chase.
Nyasha Gwanzura played a key role in that success by claiming career-best figures of four wickets for 33 runs. She is retained in the squad alongside Michelle Mavunga and Francisca Chipare as the team prepares to face India.
The batting lineup features Modester Mupachikwa, Sharne Mayers, Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Kelis Ndhlovu, and Beloved Biza, offering a combination of seasoned campaigners and flexible options. Leadership and international experience will also be provided by Nkomo and Nomvelo Sibanda.
The six-match tour will test the visiting side against a formidable Indian team, particularly in the fifty-over format where vital Championship points are available. The T20Is will provide an early chance to test squad combinations and generate momentum.
For Zimbabwe, the tour represents an important milestone in their cricketing development. Having demonstrated their competitiveness against established opponents, the team aims to carry the momentum from their recent success into this landmark series.
The 15-member touring squad comprises Josephine Nkomo as captain, alongside Beloved Biza, Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Kelis Ndhlovu, Michelle Mavunga, Francisca Chipare, Olinder Chare, Kudzai Chigora, Nyasha Gwanzura, Nomvelo Sibanda, Loryn Phiri, Chiyedza Dhururu, Modester Mupachikwa, Tendai Makusha, and Sharne Mayers.
