After months of speculation that China and Russia are supporting Iran during its conflict with the United States, President Donald Trump now indicates a belief that the two nations are withholding assistance from Tehran. Since the outbreak of the US-Israel war on Iran, Washington has repeatedly questioned whether Beijing and Moscow might be enabling Tehran.

In a social media post, the US President stated that Russia and China possess too much to lose to provide meaningful support to Iran. Trump added that even if Beijing and Moscow were offering aid in some capacity, any involvement would likely remain minimal.

The remarks follow earlier statements in which Trump expressed trust that China and Russia would refrain from helping Tehran during the hostilities. Trump previously recounted that Chinese President Xi Jinping assured him during a meeting in Beijing that neither China nor its domestic companies would supply weapons to the Islamic Republic, while Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly gave similar assurances.

Despite these assurances, Washington officials have frequently scrutinized potential foreign ties. US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth previously claimed that Moscow and Beijing were involved at varying levels. During President Xi's visit to the United States, Trump emphasized that any Chinese backing for Iran, whether direct or indirect, would be completely unacceptable.

US Ambassador to China David Perdue reinforced that message, noting that the administration made it explicitly clear that any assistance to Iran involving intelligence, components, or military equipment would face strong objections.

Earlier reporting from international media suggested that Russia had expanded intelligence cooperation with Iran by supplying drone technology and satellite imagery, citing US intelligence sources who alleged the move could prolong regional fighting to Moscow's benefit. However, the Kremlin dismissed those allegations as disinformation, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov declining to comment on individual reports amid a widespread circulation of conflicting claims.
