BENGALURU: An FIR has been registered against an Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS officer and three other individuals for allegedly abusing and assaulting a police inspector and his colleagues during a late-night inspection at a pub in Bengaluru, law enforcement officials said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 am on October 10 during a surprise check at an establishment located within the Cubbon Park police station limits. The formal complaint was lodged by a police inspector who has been attached to the Central Crime Branch Special Investigation Squad for the past six months.

According to the police report, the operation was conducted following an order from the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner directing checks on suspicious individuals at late-night bars and restaurants across the Cubbon Park and Ashok Nagar police jurisdictions. The inspector, accompanied by other officers and staff members, entered the pub to verify the age and identity documents of patrons.

Authorities stated that four men subsequently initiated an argument with the inspector over a minor matter, proceeding to hurl abuse at him and the accompanying personnel. In the filed complaint, the inspector identified the suspects as Vikas Marmat, Abhay Udaysingh, Nithish, and Roshan.

The complaint alleges that the group obstructed public servants from carrying out their official responsibilities, physically assaulted and verbally abused officers, and issued threats. Consequently, a case has been registered against the four suspects at the Cubbon Park police station under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, covering voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of the peace, assaulting a public servant on duty, and common intention. Police confirmed that an ongoing investigation into the matter is actively underway.
