New Delhi: West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has made an emotional appeal for financial support to revive Caribbean cricket, hoping the team's spirited showing against India will help Cricket West Indies attract sponsors and secure greater investment.

After losing the three-match ODI series 1-2, West Indies pushed India hard in the five-match T20I series, holding the two-time defending T20 World Cup champions to a 2-2 draw. Sammy believes the performances could help the team make a stronger case to stakeholders and potential investors as West Indies cricket continues to grapple with financial challenges.

Sammy highlighted the need for someone to offer financial backing to the sport, noting that series against top-tier opponents like India bring the team closer to important conversations regarding funding. He contrasted the robust cricketing infrastructure in India with the hurdles faced by the West Indies, explaining that sustained planning allows India to consistently compete for major honors.

Beyond financial concerns, Sammy expressed encouragement regarding the confidence and intent displayed by his players against one of the strongest teams in international cricket. He noted that the squad's swagger and belief have returned, marking a major step forward for the team's development.

Sammy also credited spinners Roston Chase and Gudakesh Motie for their disciplined bowling efforts throughout the T20I series, which helped restrict India's scoring opportunities. Although the fifth and final T20I in Bengaluru was washed out by rain and prevented a potential series victory, Sammy emphasized that the team had made significant strides during the tour.
