Assam Police will challenge the Gauhati High Court's bail orders for Amritprava Mahanta and Sandipon Garg in the Zubeen Garg death case before the Supreme Court as soon as the courts reopen following the current holidays. Zubeen Garg passed away during a scuba diving incident in Singapore.

Special Director General of Police for CID and SIT Chief Munna Prasad Gupta stated that the judicial proceedings are advancing on a daily basis in a fast-track court, with 134 witnesses already heard. Gupta confirmed that the state intends to contest the High Court's release of the two individuals.

The Gauhati High Court previously granted bail to suspended Assam Police Deputy Superintendent of Police Sandipon Garg, who is a cousin of the late artist and was taken into custody by the Special Investigation Team. Special Public Prosecutor Ziaul Kamar noted that the full order had not yet been read out at the time of the announcement.

Co-singer Amritprava Mahanta also secured bail from the High Court on a bond of 50,000 rupees, becoming the first accused in the matter to be released. She had been detained by the SIT following extensive questioning related to the artist's passing.

The singer died in September during a scuba diving accident in Singapore ahead of a scheduled performance at the Northeast India Festival. Other figures linked to the case, including festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, have also faced legal proceedings, with the Supreme Court previously directing the Assam government to ensure a thorough and swift trial.
