Newdelhi,Oct 13, 2026 14:08 ISTLeader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi announced that he has invited leaders of the INDIA opposition alliance, fellow parliamentarians, student organizations, and civil society representatives to his residence for a tea gathering and a subsequent joint media address. Gandhi emphasized that the participants stand united in a broader popular campaign aimed at safeguarding democratic institutions.

According to sources, the high-level meeting is designed to map out collaborative protest strategies targeting alleged electoral manipulation, commonly referred to as vote theft, and to intensify pressure for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

In a message shared on social media, the senior Congress leader stated that he welcomed alliance members and comrades to his home to reinforce the message that the opposition remains firmly aligned in an ongoing and relentless movement to protect democratic norms. He added that the gathering would conclude with a unified presentation before the press.

The initiative follows a major demonstration in the national capital where opposition figures, activists, and citizens participated in a March for Democracy through heavily barricaded streets to challenge alleged poll irregularities in the Supreme Court. Major political figures including Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, D Raja, M A Baby, Tejashwi Yadav, and Supriya Sule joined the protest before filing a formal petition.

The legal challenge names the Election Commission of India alongside Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi as respondents. This action unfolded after the Chief Justice of India declined a formal meeting request from opposition leaders on the grounds that the matter is currently sub judice.
