An Indian Administrative Service officer belonging to the Andhra Pradesh cadre and three other individuals have been formally charged for allegedly assaulting a police inspector and interfering with law enforcement officials during a late-hour inspection at a Bengaluru restaurant and bar. The formal First Information Report was registered on October 10 following the altercation.
The accused individuals are identified as Vikas Marmat, who serves as a special officer with the Kuppam Area Development Authority, alongside three associates named Abhay Uday Singh, Nitish, and Roshan. The confrontation transpired between 1:00 am and 1:30 am on October 10 at the Cavore establishment situated on Residency Road, an area falling under the operational boundaries of the Cubbon Park police station.
According to the official complaint lodged by Arun Salunke, a police inspector attached to the Special Enquiry Wing of the Central Crime Branch, he and his team were conducting compliance checks at various hospitality venues within the Cubbon Park and Ashok Nagar jurisdictions following direct instructions from the Bengaluru city police commissioner.
Investigators stated that when the inspection team arrived at the Cavore venue at approximately 1:30 am to examine customer identification cards for age verification, the four suspects initiated a dispute with the law enforcement personnel. The men reportedly subjected the inspector and his team members to verbal abuse, physical assault, and intimidation while actively preventing them from carrying out their official responsibilities.
Following the incident, the injured inspector sought medical care for the harm sustained during the altercation before proceeding to the Cubbon Park police station to officially register the complaint.
Authorities have filed charges under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, encompassing counts of voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of the peace, assaulting or utilizing criminal force to deter a public servant from duty, and acting under a shared common intention.
