New Delhi: Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet running into more than 500 pages against seven people in connection with the murder of a 54-year-old Manipuri musician and music teacher in southeast Delhi, according to an official citing Press Trust of India reports.

The extensive chargesheet was submitted in a Saket court and relies on statements provided by over 30 witnesses. The ongoing legal case centers on the homicide of Chongtham Vikram Singh, who was a prominent figure in Manipur's Western music community, following an incident in Kilokari village.

The seven adult individuals named in the judicial filing are Bharat Kumar, 19, Pramod, 26, Ramzan Khan, 22, Deepanshu, 21, Mohan Vishwakarma, 32, Vijay, 36, and Mannu, 26. Authorities also apprehended a minor in connection with the crime. Every adult accused is employed at a local dhaba.

The formal charges include legal provisions pertaining to criminal conspiracy, murder committed by a group of five or more individuals, house trespassing, and murder, the official stated. Singh was attacked by multiple men on September 6 after stepping outside to protest loud noise and disturbances occurring near his residence.

According to investigative findings, eight men pursued the victim upstairs and beat him right outside his apartment in the presence of his son before escaping the scene. Investigators note that the perpetrators allegedly intended to teach him a lesson for complaining about the noise rather than commit a killing.

A police source indicated that during interrogations, the suspects claimed they struck Singh with physical blows and fists after he confronted them over the commotion. Although Singh had previously raised concerns with a nearby dhaba owner regarding noisy gatherings, law enforcement agencies had never received an official complaint from him prior to the incident.

Authorities are actively reviewing every dimension of the case, which includes analyzing whether any racial bias contributed to the violent altercation.
