Women residing in the Bhojla Gram Panchayat of the Jhansi district are achieving economic self-sufficiency and earning heightened respect within their families by participating in local self-help groups. Through the collective pooling of their savings, these members successfully established Saksham Prerna Laghu Udyog, a specialized Take Home Ration manufacturing facility. The plant is dedicated to producing wholesome food items such as barfi, halwa, porridge, and various moong dal preparations designated for children attending local Anganwadi centers. At present, seventeen distinct self-help groups are officially associated with the ongoing operations of the manufacturing plant.
Individual members report significant personal and financial transformations as a direct result of their employment and leadership roles within the collective. Draupadi, who previously worked as a tailor and a laborer, noted that her stable income now enables her to send her children to a better school, a goal that was previously out of reach. Similarly, group leader Saroj has been able to enroll her own children in private educational institutions. Another participant, Vineeta, shared that despite initial opposition from her family regarding her decision to join the initiative, she now successfully supports her husband financially and converses with noticeably greater self-assurance.
