Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has surpassed the Rs 10 crore mark in opening-day advance bookings within Tamil Nadu, leaving nearly two days still on the clock before its theatrical premiere. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel faces the question of whether it can challenge recent Tamil box office titans such as Vijay's Leo and GOAT. Strong pre-sales driven by Chennai and a remaining booking window give the film an opportunity to close the gap with some of the state's highest opening-day advance booking benchmarks.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk’s Day 1 advance booking data, Jailer 2 has grossed over Rs 10 crore in Tamil Nadu, a figure that accounts for block seats. The feature has secured slots across more than 3,300 shows throughout the state, with upwards of 500 screenings already achieving housefull status. As the final stretch of advance sales continues, these figures are expected to climb higher before the initial show commences.
Chennai has emerged as the primary driver of Jailer 2 advance ticket sales within Tamil Nadu. The capital city accounts for more than Rs 4.80 crore gross, inclusive of block seats, across in excess of 1,000 shows. This constitutes roughly half of the entire state tally, highlighting the intense anticipation in Rajinikanth's core market.
Beyond Chennai, Coimbatore has crossed the Rs 1 crore gross threshold with block seats included, while Trichy and Madurai have also added substantially to the pre-sales tally. This statewide interest reflects a robust demand ahead of the sequel's launch. The momentum extends outside Tamil Nadu as well, with the film crossing Rs 21 crore gross nationwide for Day 1 with block seats, and exceeding Rs 18 crore without them, alongside more than 10 lakh tickets sold for opening day.
Neighboring southern markets are also reporting heavy pre-sales, led by Kerala with over Rs 4.50 crore gross and Karnataka with more than Rs 4 crore gross. Over its initial four-day stretch, Tamil Nadu advance bookings have already crossed Rs 23 crore gross with block seats, giving trade analysts plenty to evaluate regarding its opening weekend performance.
Despite breaking past the Rs 10 crore milestone, Jailer 2 still trails the final Day 1 advance booking totals of several major Tamil releases. Past high-profile openers include Leo in 2023 at Rs 19.57 crore, GOAT in 2024 at Rs 15.60 crore, Coolie in 2025 at Rs 15.43 crore, Jana Nayagan in 2026 at Rs 13.88 crore, and Vettaiyan in 2024 at Rs 12.63 crore. While the sequel currently sits below these totals, the ongoing booking window leaves room for its ranking to shift.
The film also measures itself against its predecessor, Jailer, which was released in 2023, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, and produced by Sun Pictures, pulling in Rs 23.40 crore gross in Tamil Nadu on its opening day. Whether the new installment approaches or exceeds that benchmark depends on closing pre-sales and audience turnout.
The final two days before launch typically prove vital for a Rajinikanth release as pre-sales accelerate. For Jailer 2, attention centers on how much the Tamil Nadu figures grow ahead of Thursday alongside spot bookings. While strong advance numbers indicate a healthy opening, audience word of mouth will ultimately dictate the film's sustained box office trajectory.
Produced by Sun Pictures and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 brings back Rajinikanth as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. Returning cast members include Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, Mohanlal, and Shiva Rajkumar, alongside new franchise additions Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, SJ Suryah, and Suraj Venjaramoodu, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. Jailer 2 is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on October 15, 2026, across Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.
