Actor Lekha Washington, partner of actor Imran Khan, has shared a detailed account of their detention by the Mumbai Police alongside Aamir Khan’s niece, actor Zayn Marie, during a demonstration in Mumbai.

In a social media post, Lekha explained that the group had walked to August Kranti Maidan to inquire about friends who had already been detained. She stated that there was no active gathering at the venue, though police barricades and a large media contingent were present.

According to Lekha, reporters quickly surrounded Imran, who briefly spoke to the press to clarify that they were acting as private individuals rather than representatives of any organization. However, she claimed the interaction was abruptly cut short by loud whistle-blowing and a surge of uniformed personnel.

Lekha stated that officers grabbed both her and Zayn, leaving them bruised, before forcing the group into a vehicle. They were driven around for a couple of hours and later barred from using public transport upon release.

Reflecting on the event, Lekha acknowledged their privilege and noted that others face far harsher treatment. She also expressed deep appreciation for the Mumbai Police, describing the force as a beacon of balance based on her personal experiences.

Footage and photographs of Imran, Lekha, and Zayn being escorted into a police van circulated widely online. The trio subsequently confirmed their release on social media, with Lekha sharing updates to reassure the public of their safety after returning home.

The detentions occurred during demonstrations organized at August Kranti Maidan to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the electoral roll revision. Similar protests have unfolded in other regions, including Delhi, where authorities have also taken action against demonstrators.
