A widely shared post on the social media platform X recently sparked rumors by claiming that Selena Gomez announced a pregnancy on her Instagram story. The false post featured an image showing a woman displaying a baby bump alongside the caption My bundle of joy and a tag for Benny Blanco. The post suggested the singer and actress was expecting despite her previous health diagnoses.
The claim is entirely untrue and stems from an artificial intelligence-generated or digitally altered image. The authentic photograph was originally published by Sofia Richie Grainge on March 11, depicting her own pregnancy with her second child alongside husband Elliot Grainge. The circulating rumor simply superimposed Gomezβs face onto Richie Grainge's body. Furthermore, Gomez has not published any such pregnancy announcement on her official Instagram account.
Gomez has previously spoken openly about her family planning limitations and medical history. In a 2024 interview with Vanity Fair, she revealed that she is unable to carry children naturally due to multiple health challenges, including lupus and bipolar disorder. She explained that medical complications would endanger both her life and a baby's, a reality that required a period of personal grief.
Despite those challenges, Gomez has expressed positive thoughts about future motherhood through alternatives like surrogacy or adoption. During an appearance at the Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York City, she also touched on family themes while discussing her mental health organization, mentioning her younger sister and her long-term perspective on eventually having children of her own.
