New Delhi: Artificial intelligence firm Anthropic is inviting subject experts and researchers to tackle advanced scientific and reasoning problems using its Claude models through two newly announced fellowship programs for 2027. The four-month initiatives provide compensation ranging from USD 100,000 to USD 167,000, which translates to approximately Rs 83 lakh to Rs 1.39 crore. Scheduled to run from January 12 to May 8, 2027, the programs are structured to evaluate AI capabilities, uncover limitations, and discover methods for enhancement.

The application deadline for both tracks is set for October 28, 2026. The offerings are split into two distinct paths catering to different academic and professional backgrounds. The first path, the Conceptual Reasoning Fellowship, targets specialists in philosophy, cognitive science, economics, policy, and law. These fellows will collaborate with research teams to evaluate Claude's reasoning capabilities, isolate complex problems, and design assessments for expert-level judgment tasks. Candidates must hold or be close to completing a PhD in a pertinent discipline or possess equivalent research experience, alongside daily familiarity with Claude and Claude Code.

The second path, the Anthropic STEM Fellowship, is aimed at researchers specializing in science and engineering. Selected individuals will leverage Claude to explore difficult scientific questions, construct datasets and simulations, and test the AI's problem-solving aptitude within their respective fields. Applicants for this track need a PhD in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field alongside substantial experience, such as postdoctoral research or faculty standing, while prior machine learning experience remains optional rather than mandatory.

The duration for both fellowships spans January 12 to May 8, 2027, with San Francisco designated as the primary location, though remote arrangements may be evaluated for candidates already based in the United States. Anthropic will not provide visa sponsorship, meaning all participants must independently secure full-time work authorization in the US. The selection process involves a take-home assessment and interviews with researchers and mentors, with final offers anticipated by November 20. Prospective applicants can submit their resumes and details through the company's official portal by outlining their research interests and familiarity with AI tools.
