Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, officially opened for pre-orders at 5:30 PM IST on October 16, with commercial sales scheduled to begin on October 23. Billed by the company as its thinnest iPhone ever, the device features Apple's largest display to date. Interested buyers can secure the phone through the official Apple online store, authorized retail partners, and major offline retail platforms.

Despite widespread discussion over its high price tag, market reports suggest strong consumer interest, with expectations that shipments could reach nearly 6 million units globally in 2026, driven in part by the brand's premium status symbol appeal.

The iPhone Duo starts at Rs 2,99,900 for the entry-level 256GB storage configuration. Additional variants include the 512GB model priced at Rs 3,24,900, the 1TB option at Rs 3,74,900, and the maximum-capacity 2TB version priced at Rs 4,49,900. The handset is available in two color choices: Star White and Night Sky. Additionally, Apple is offering a Rs 7,000 discount via select bank cards.

As Apple's inaugural foldable device, the iPhone Duo opens in a book-like orientation. When unfolded, it reveals a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR screen that offers 50 percent more viewing area than the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Closed, the device functions like a traditional smartphone using a 5.4-inch outer display. It operates on the A20 Pro processor, reintroduces side-mounted Touch ID, and provides Apple Pencil compatibility. Durability features include Ceramic Shield on the rear, Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, and an IP68 water and dust resistance rating.

The camera configuration features a 48-megapixel primary sensor with optical-quality 2x telephoto capabilities, alongside a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens that also captures macro photography. The selfie camera adapts to multiple orientations, while an under-display camera manages FaceTime sessions when the device is open. A dual-battery architecture supports all-day usage.

Running on iOS 27, the software dynamically adjusts to the folding mechanism, routing content to the appropriate screen and enabling Split View multitasking for two applications simultaneously. Furthermore, an upgraded Siri powered by Apple Intelligence introduces beta features allowing the assistant to remain active alongside apps and answer queries regarding on-screen content. StandBy mode functions on either screen without requiring an active power connection, transforming the display into a clock, digital photo frame, or widget dashboard.
