New Delhi: Election officials in Delhi have commenced the re-verification of over 47 lakh voters whose names were eliminated from the draft electoral rolls, a measure designed to prevent eligible citizens from missing out during the ongoing special intensive revision, according to Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar.
This undertaking comes in the wake of complaints indicating that the draft rolls released on August 31 had inadvertently left out numerous living residents and individuals still residing at their registered addresses. The rollout of the final electoral lists is officially scheduled for December 4.
Kumar noted that roughly 25 lakh out of the 33.12 lakh instances where individuals received notices regarding mapping problems or discrepancies have already been settled, based on updates from the Press Trust of India. Booth-level officers have received instructions to personally revisit households across all 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi.
During these visits, officials are working to clear notices issued to voters whose names appeared in the draft rolls while simultaneously re-examining those whose names were purged. Citizens whose names were dropped from the draft lists have the option to file Form 6 to request their reinstatement before the final publication.
Furthermore, booth-level officers have received explicit guidance to avoid the summary rejection of applications containing minor typographical mistakes or errors in personal information. Following the initial enumeration phase, roughly 47.56 lakh individuals out of Delhi's 1.45 crore total voters were taken off the draft lists under classifications including absent, shifted, deceased, and duplicate entries.
Out of the 97.53 lakh voters retained within the draft rolls, 33.12 lakh faced notices due to inconsistencies in their personal data or because their historical records failed to map or link properly with the 2002 special intensive revision records. Kumar confirmed that all remaining cases tied to these notices will be fully resolved by October 30, even as field teams press forward with the re-verification of excluded electors prior to the December deadline.
