Tukaram Mundhe: 'Without Food Safety, Food Security Is Null And Void'
Speaking at the conclave, Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe addressed the state-wide crackdown on hygiene violations across eateries, canteens, and pharmaceutical manufacturers. Mundhe underscored the necessity of shifting food safety from single-officer enforcement into a broader public initiative, stating, "Without food safety, food security is null and void." He highlighted regulatory measures extending beyond restaurants to schools, infant nutrition, nutraceuticals, and active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturers. Discussing bureaucratic continuity and frequent administrative transfers, Mundhe noted that long-term change requires institutionalizing systems alongside proactive citizen vigilance. Mundhe also announced the rollout of an Eat Right movement in Maharashtra aimed at raising awareness on dietary habits, product handling, and public health standards.
