Tukaram Munde: 'Politics Is Not My Cup of Tea' Conclave
Speaking at the India Today Conclave, Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Tukaram Munde defended his aggressive regulatory crackdown across restaurants, drug manufacturers, and celebrity endorsements. Addressing notices issued to high-profile film stars over surrogate advertising of prohibited products, Munde cited Section 24 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, along with 2018 advertising regulations, asserting that brand endorsers are legally obligated to conduct due diligence. Emphasizing firm statutory enforcement, Munde warned, "Whoever violates the law, they have to face the law," noting that hearings are proceeding under established procedures. He dismissed concerns over judicial observations, stating that the FDA adheres strictly to due legal processes. Responding to speculation regarding a prospective political career following high public visibility, Munde dismissed the claim, reiterating, "Politics is not my cup of tea. I am a public servant." He reaffirmed his dedication to public service and the Eat Right initiative.
