Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal strongly challenged European delegates during the Berlin Global Dialogue regarding their historical responsibility for global climate change and carbon emissions. Pointing out the disparity in environmental impact, Goyal stated that India supports seventeen percent of the global population while contributing less than three percent to worldwide carbon emissions. He contrasted this clean record with Europe's substantially higher per capita environmental footprint, questioning which nations caused damage to the ozone layer and drove centuries of historical carbon output during their industrial growth.
During his address, the minister underscored the ongoing expansion of India's clean energy programme. He emphasized the vital necessity of balancing ecological goals with the fundamental energy, food, and security requirements of 1.4 billion citizens, all while actively fostering a circular economy.
Beyond environmental matters, the speaker drew attention to a nationwide cultural renaissance sweeping across India. He referenced major transformations at spiritual and historical sites including the Kashi Vishwanath Dham, the Shri Ram temple in Ayodhya, Mahakal Mahalok in Ujjain, and the shrines at Kedarnath and Badrinath, alongside the installation of Adi Shankaracharya's statue.
Goyal also highlighted the successful repatriation of more than 650 stolen ancient artifacts from abroad over the past dozen years, noting that several cultural landmarks have earned recognition as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Invoking the legacies of figures like Swami Chinmayananda and the Vivekananda Rock Memorial initiated by Eknath Ranade, the address stressed the importance of education in mother tongues alongside advancements in modern science and technology.
Concluding his remarks, the minister emphasized national self-reliance and unity against divisive forces. He connected the centenary of the Chinmaya Mission with the broader national vision of achieving a fully developed nation, or Viksit Bharat, as India completes 100 years of independence in 2047.
