Google is bringing blood pressure and insulin resistance trend tracking to the Fitbit Air, giving users new ways to monitor shifts in their physical well-being. The features arrive as part of Google Health’s Health Guardian suite and are designed to help users track changes, receive monthly health reports, and obtain tips from the Google Health Coach. Access to these insights requires a Google Health Premium subscription.
Rather than functioning like a traditional cuff-based monitor, the Fitbit Air analyzes sensor data over several weeks to observe changes in blood flow patterns, indicating whether blood pressure trends appear normal or elevated. Insulin resistance tracking similarly evaluates accumulated health data over multiple weeks to spot potential changes in how the body responds to insulin, which regulates blood sugar levels. Regular wearers will receive a health report at the beginning of each month via the Google Health app.
Google notes that these additions serve as a supplementary wellness guide rather than a substitute for professional medical tests, real-time measurements, or clinical diagnoses. Alongside the Health Guardian release, Google is expanding automatic activity detection for the Fitbit Air as well as the Pixel Watch 3, Pixel Watch 4, and Pixel Watch 5. The upgraded recognition system now supports more than 100 activities, utilizing historical data and contextual reasoning to double overall accuracy and automatically log forgotten workouts.
