New Delhi, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan on Monday cautioned nations that sponsor terrorism that this unlawful tactic will eventually backfire and harm their own populations. Speaking against the backdrop of active conflicts across various regions of the globe, he stressed that every sovereign nation possesses inherent self-respect and that international borders must be respected without encroachment.
Addressing an audience at the National Defence College on the theme of India's core national interests, values, and strategic objectives, the vice president pointed out that political leaders supporting militant activities fail to recognize the long-term consequences of their actions. He described terrorism as an unlawful instrument that might initially appear to damage adversaries, but warned that it ultimately rebounds to hurt the sponsors.
Outlining India's broader security priorities, Radhakrishnan highlighted the necessity of maintaining internal security, preserving national unity, and defending territorial boundaries, airspace, and vital maritime trade routes. He also underscored the critical need to secure cyberspace and build constructive diplomatic partnerships to foster regional stability and global peace.
National security remains a fundamental prerequisite for national advancement, Radhakrishnan noted, explaining that it establishes a stable framework where the country can grow and pursue its aspirations. He added that India's goal to become a leading global power is driven by the desire to protect its own sovereignty and prevent other nations from imposing unfair conditions, rather than seeking to dominate others.
Additionally, the vice president identified corruption as a major hurdle facing the Global South and called for its total eradication. He encouraged the attendees of the 66th National Defence College course to dedicate themselves fully to serving the nation with distinction.
