New Delhi: Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Stellantis have broadened their long-standing strategic collaboration to encompass advanced vehicle technology and joint product development. Under the newly signed definitive agreement, vehicles resulting from this partnership will be produced in India and exported to more than 50 global destinations.
Formalized on October 12, 2026, the new accord builds directly upon a memorandum of understanding previously established in February of the same year. The expanded arrangement integrates Tata Motors' proprietary vehicle architectures and technology capabilities with the global engineering and development expertise of Stellantis.
Through this agreement, Stellantis gains access to Tata Motors' advanced vehicle platforms. Stellantis will utilize its engineering resources within India to adapt these vehicles for diverse international markets, ensuring they meet varying regulatory standards, operating environments, and consumer preferences.
Production for the collaborative models will take place at Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited, which operates as a 50-50 joint venture between Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Stellantis. The initiative is designed to leverage India's cost competitiveness, manufacturing scale, and engineering talent to bolster the companies' international export strategies and highlight the country's rising prominence as a global manufacturing hub.
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, noted that the agreement marks a major milestone in a cooperative relationship spanning over two decades. He emphasized that Stellantis adopting Tata Motors' technology and architecture allows both enterprises to combine their strengths to deliver vehicles engineered and built locally for international buyers.
Tianshu Xin, Chief Operating Officer for the Asia-Pacific region at Stellantis, stated that the venture will enhance the company's ability to create competitive models within India while broadening its overall export footprint. He also underscored the strategic value of India within the broader Stellantis global manufacturing and development network.
This latest phase deepens a cooperative history lasting more than 20 years, pushing their joint efforts past previous boundaries and into core vehicle technology and engineering. Stellantis, controlling 14 distinct automotive brands across multiple global regions, brings extensive market reach and engineering knowledge to the table, complementing Tata Motors' architectural expertise.
Although specific upcoming vehicle models and launch timelines were not disclosed in the announcement, the partnership is anticipated to further integrate India into the global automotive value chain and expand the nation's footprint in worldwide vehicle exports.
