Kanpur: A 20-year-old woman in Kanpur died after she jumped from the second floor of her matrimonial home following a dispute that occurred on the night of her wedding anniversary. The tragedy unfolded after the woman, identified as Roshni, threw her 14-month-old daughter from the roof and then jumped herself. The infant survived the incident after being caught by her father, while Roshni succumbed to her injuries days later while undergoing treatment.
The incident took place on the night of October 7, when Roshni and her husband, Noor Alam, celebrated their third wedding anniversary by cutting a cake and having dinner together. According to family members, an argument subsequently broke out between Noor Alam and Roshni's sister, Ishrat. When Ishrat attempted to leave the residence, Roshni tried to intervene and stop her, but her sister refused to stay.
Following the heated exchange, Roshni reportedly threw her young child from the second-floor roof before leaping off herself. The infant escaped serious harm because Noor Alam managed to catch the child in time. Both mother and daughter were immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
While doctors confirmed that the child was out of danger, Roshni's condition was critical, prompting her transfer to another facility for advanced care. She ultimately passed away from her injuries on October 11. Following her death, officers from the Gujani police station transferred her body for a post-mortem examination.
Local authorities noted that the family was initially hesitant to permit the autopsy, but agreed after being persuaded by station in-charge Rajan Sharma. Police stated that no formal complaint had been lodged at the time, but emphasized that investigators would examine the facts and pursue appropriate legal action if a formal complaint is eventually submitted.
