Mumbai Police have registered a formal First Information Report against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Amit Thackeray, and 24 other individuals following an unauthorised demonstration held at Shivaji Park. Authorities filed the case invoking multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to unlawful assembly and causing public inconvenience through unpermitted gatherings.
Along with the prominent political scions, the police action names several other key figures, including legislators Varun Sardesai and Mahesh Sawant, as well as leader Sandeep Deshpande. Investigators have served official notices to the accused political leaders, requiring them to appear before authorities to record their statements regarding the incident.
The unpermitted stir at the prominent public ground drew swift legal scrutiny from local law enforcement, who cited the lack of prior clearance for the assembly and the resulting disruption to the surrounding area. The ongoing legal proceedings mark another flashpoint in local political tensions as authorities move to enforce public assembly regulations.
