Delhi: Delhi Police personnel visited the residence of Nationalist Congress Party spokesperson Anish Gawande, where Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has been staying, to serve him a formal legal notice ahead of a scheduled demonstration at Connaught Place. Officers spent about forty minutes at the premises, where visuals captured Dipke receiving, annotating, and signing the administrative document while holding the national flag.
The notice informed Dipke of prohibitory orders enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita across the Connaught Place and Central Park areas, which strictly forbid unlawful assemblies and unauthorized public gatherings. Authorities cautioned the CJP leader against breaching the regulations, warning that severe legal consequences would follow any disruption of public order or interference with local businesses during the festive Navratri season.
Police deployments were heavily stepped up both inside and outside the Jhandewalan residence, with officials indicating potential preventive detention or house arrest to prevent the march from moving forward. Authorities cited the absence of police permission, objections raised by local market associations, and the administrative closure of Central Park by the New Delhi Municipal Council as grounds for disallowing the event.
Organizers had issued a public call urging citizens and supporters to gather with the Tricolour at Central Park at 5:00 PM. CJP representatives argued that the planned gathering was not an unlawful protest, but a peaceful Tiranga rally intended solely to unfurl the national flag. NCP spokesperson Gawande questioned the necessity of the restrictions, noting that similar events had proceeded peacefully elsewhere without causing widespread commercial closures.
Security arrangements across central Delhi have been significantly heightened, with thousands of police and paramilitary personnel, barricades, and riot control vehicles placed on alert. The development follows the recent judicial custody of other CJP associates, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, in connection with previous demonstrations.
