Kia has officially showcased the strong-hybrid variant of the Seltos at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, offering an early look at a new electrified powertrain that is slated to enter the Indian market in 2027. This upcoming hybrid variant will broaden the midsize SUV's existing lineup, which currently features traditional petrol, turbo-petrol, and diesel choices, as manufacturers increasingly adopt electrification to boost fuel economy and comply with stricter environmental rules.
The unveiled vehicle pairs a 1.6-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to generate a total system output of 178 horsepower. Although the global exhibition model features an all-wheel-drive layout, the version destined for India is anticipated to utilize a front-wheel-drive setup. Rather than replacing current offerings, the hybrid variant is expected to serve as an additional powertrain option for buyers.
The hybrid setup on display in Paris utilizes a 1.6-litre petrol engine producing 102bhp and 141Nm of torque, operating alongside an electric motor that contributes 129bhp and 388Nm. A six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission manages power delivery. Kia reports a fuel efficiency rating of 14.71 kilometers per liter under WLTP testing standards, and the vehicle is capable of running on electric power alone under specific conditions, though the exact electric-only range remains undisclosed. The India-bound iteration is expected to keep the fundamental hybrid mechanics, though adjustments may be made for the local market.
The Paris exhibition vehicle is presented in the top-tier X-Line trim, featuring an exterior design that closely mirrors the standard Seltos available in India. Distinct differences include a powered tailgate, which is currently missing on the Indian-spec model, and the positioning of the hybrid battery beneath the boot floor, resulting in the omission of a spare tire. Inside the cabin, the gear selector has been moved to a steering column stalk—resembling arrangements found in Kia electric vehicles—which opens up additional center console space for storage and cup holders.
The interior of the display vehicle showcases an all-black design scheme along with features like a triple-screen dashboard layout, ambient cabin lighting, a head-up display, metallic pedals, wireless device charging, and leatherette seating surfaces. Final equipment levels, official fuel economy numbers, pricing, and variant lineups for the Indian market will be confirmed closer to the anticipated launch in 2027.
Currently, the Seltos lineup in India includes three other engines: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 115bhp and 144Nm with manual and CVT transmissions, a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine pushing out 160bhp and 253Nm paired with an iMT or seven-speed DCT, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine delivering 116hp and 250Nm with manual or automatic six-speed gearboxes. The introduction of a strong hybrid will provide consumers with an alternative pathway to lower fuel consumption without transitioning completely to an electric vehicle.
