Mumbai: Umesh Chauhan initially believed a tyre had burst when he heard sudden gunfire near actor Tiger Shroff’s vehicle in Mumbai on Sunday night. Moments later, he experienced a sharp pain in his chest and began having trouble breathing. Speaking from the hospital, Chauhan explained that he was standing close to the window on Shroff's side of the car, filming a video as the actor departed from a Juhu football ground. When the vehicle exited the gate, he heard the loud sound, felt the acute chest discomfort, and soon lost consciousness after calling out for help. He remained unaware that he had sustained a gunshot wound until arriving at the medical facility, initially suspecting he was suffering a heart attack. Following initial treatment at Cooper Hospital in Juhu, he was transferred around midnight to KEM Hospital in Parel for specialized medical attention. He noted that Tiger Shroff’s mother visited him to offer assurances of support.
Medical staff at KEM Hospital reported that Chauhan is in stable condition and remains under close observation, noting that the bullet spared his vital organs without damaging his heart or lungs. He is currently receiving care in the Emergency ICU under the Department of General Surgery alongside the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery team. Physicians are managing his case conservatively without immediate surgery, with future procedures depending on his ongoing recovery and further evaluations. Chauhan, a native of Uttar Pradesh, earns his living as a driver and domestic worker to support his wife and their six-year-old son, while the family anticipates the arrival of another child.
The shooting incident occurred as Shroff was leaving the sports facility at Pushpa Narsee Park in Juhu. According to law enforcement, three individuals approached on a motorcycle, with two executing the gunfire targeting the vehicle while the third waited to facilitate their escape. Authorities successfully intercepted the three suspects aboard the Pune-Jaipur Superfast Express at the Kota railway station in Rajasthan, where police sources indicated they intended to flee toward Nepal. Mumbai Police identified the detained individuals as Ritik, Phool Singh, and Rehan, confirming that none of them are minors. Kota Superintendent of Police Tejaswani Gautam stated that one of the suspects had been in communication with an alleged associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, though a social media claim of responsibility remains unverified.
