Bihar: A Durga Puja pandal in Bihar is drawing crowds for selfies as its giant thermocol insects, spider webs, and humorous signs create an unconventional festive attraction.
A Durga Puja pandal in Bihar’s Katihar is giving devotees an unusual reason to stop and stare this festive season. Decorated with giant cockroach models, spider webs, and creepy-crawly figures from the entrance to the ceiling, the pandal has turned an unexpected theme into a selfie attraction.
Located in Vinodpur, the pandal stands apart from the elaborate floral decorations and traditional festive displays usually associated with Durga Puja. Here, cockroach figures dominate the decor, appearing around the idol of Goddess Durga and across the pandal’s interiors. Giant models made from thermocol, along with large spider webs, add to its striking appearance.
The bizarre theme has not stopped visitors from embracing the spectacle. In fact, the organizers have added a selfie point that seems to acknowledge exactly what the decorations are likely to provoke: curiosity, surprise, and plenty of photographs. A sign at the spot reads, “Wait! Where are you going in such a hurry? One selfie is a must, boss!”
The playful message has become part of the attraction, inviting visitors to pause before leaving and capture a moment with the unusual decorations. Visuals from the pandal show children, adults, and women taking selfies and recording videos on their mobile phones. Even a woman police officer was seen joining in, photographing the distinctive display.
From the entrance to the area surrounding the deity, the cockroach figures appear throughout the space, making the theme difficult to miss. The combination of giant insects and spider webs offers a sharp departure from the colorful, ornate pandals commonly seen during the festival.
The organizers have clarified that the cockroach-themed decorations have no connection to politics, despite the unusual choice of subject.
