New Delhi: Popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee issued his first public statement on Sunday following his release from detention by Delhi Police, asserting that the episode went far beyond a standard detention and amounted to a kidnapping.
Rathee was initially taken into custody by Delhi Police from his residence in Gurugram on October 10. The detention occurred ahead of his anticipated participation in a planned protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi organized by the Cockroach Janta Party.
In a video message released after his release, the prominent critic of the ruling party expressed appreciation for the widespread support and affection he received from his followers during the time he was held.
During the video, Rathee also held up his Indian passport to refute allegations and rumors spread by a segment of the mainstream media concerning his national status, affirming that he remains a citizen of India.
