New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi made a series of claims targeting the Narendra Modi government and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during a press conference at the party headquarters, Indira Bhawan, in New Delhi.
Addressing the alleged vote irregularities and the ongoing Opposition agitation, Rahul Gandhi claimed that around 200 government officials, including personnel from the Enforcement Directorate, the Central Bureau of Investigation, and the Ministry of External Affairs, were in touch with the Opposition and passing on information directly to them. He did not publicly disclose the identities of the individuals or provide specific details regarding the information shared.
The Congress leader also hinted at Cockroach Janta Party-led youth protesters, framing all demonstrations as a unified movement with no parallel divisions. His remarks preceded the INDIA bloc's planned march to central Delhi to protest against alleged electoral irregularities and demand the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.
Rahul Gandhi asserted that the ongoing agitation would continue until the Constitution is upheld, the election system is revamped, and justice is secured. He claimed that he was receiving messages from Gyanesh Kumar and alleged that the poll chief was under intense pressure regarding the controversy over electoral roll revisions.
Urging Gyanesh Kumar to resign and turn approver, the Congress MP suggested that the poll chief was not the mastermind behind the alleged mistakes. He further accused the Centre of turning Delhi into a fortress by deploying tens of thousands of security personnel and restricting commuters from reaching the capital to protect the Election Commission head.
