Chief Justice of India Surya Kant delivered an address at the convocation ceremony of the National Law School of India University in Bengaluru, taking place after weeks of student-led agitations and institutional uncertainty. The ceremony had previously faced delays due to protests, echoing similar student dissent observed earlier at the NALSAR University of Law in Hyderabad.

Addressing the newly graduated law cohort, Justice Kant remarked that the timeframe leading up to the event involved substantial friction and unpredictability driven by external elements. He underscored the critical need for independent thought, advocating for open debate rather than the suppression of ideas.

Furthermore, the Chief Justice advised graduates to separate individuals from the official positions they occupy and stressed the importance of preserving personal dignity and composure even during intense disagreements or ideological conflicts.
