A major political controversy has erupted following remarks drawing inspiration from overseas mass demonstrations, leading to sharp clashes between ruling alliance figures and opposition leaders over youth agitation and electoral mandates. Ruling alliance representatives alleged that a coordinated conspiracy was hatched to incite the youth and instigate street unrest, arson, and disorder. Emphasising that leadership changes in a constitutional democracy can only occur through free and fair elections rather than street agitation or external interference, leaders accused student bodies and opposition groups of attempting to destabilise the nation. Meanwhile, student organisations defended the youth mobilisation as a struggle for democratic and voting rights, intensifying a fierce political war of words between rival political fronts.
In Maharashtra, the war of words escalated sharply between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray over remarks concerning regime change. Responding to Thackeray backing the call for regime change, Fadnavis remarked that Thackeray could not prevent a regime change within the Shiv Sena itself and questioned what other regime change he was referencing. Fadnavis stated that when Thackeray's party abandoned Hindutva and discarded the ideals of Balasaheb Thackeray, it caused internal upheaval, leading those who wished to adhere to Balasaheb's vision to form the real Shiv Sena. Fadnavis also noted that achieving a regime change requires contesting elections and winning the hearts of the people rather than relying on street protests. Thackeray had earlier defended the call for regime change, claiming the government is removing citizens' rights to protest and express opinions through elections.
