Pope Leo XIV held his first public engagement since undergoing lung cancer surgery, appearing at the window of the Vatican's Apostolic Palace on Sunday to recite the traditional Angelus prayer.
The medical procedure occurred only a few days prior, following a diagnosis of lung adenocarcinoma, which is the most prevalent form of lung cancer.
Following the prayer, the pontiff expressed gratitude to the many individuals who offered prayers on his behalf throughout his recent ordeal, noting that he deeply appreciated the outpouring of support.
He further indicated that he plans to make a gradual return to his scheduled duties and commitments as his recovery progresses.
