Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Varanasi to inaugurate a new garment manufacturing facility established by Arvind Limited and attend the Air Force Day aerial display at Namo Ghat. Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and UP Governor Anandiben Patel, the Prime Minister toured the modern manufacturing plant and interacted with textile workers.
The facility, described as a predominantly women-led initiative, focuses on modern manufacturing practices to enhance employment opportunities, particularly for women, while connecting Varanasi's traditional textile heritage and local products to international markets. The initiative also underlines Uttar Pradesh's expansion as a hub for industrial investment and apparel production.
Following the textile unit launch, the schedule featured an aerial demonstration by the Indian Air Force over the river Ganga at Namo Ghat, witnessed by regional dignitaries and residents. The celebrations, marking the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force, were attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and cabinet ministers.
The 'Wings Over Ganges' air show featured over 100 aircraft, including around 52 fighter jets such as Rafale, Jaguar, and MiG, alongside 15 transport aircraft and 32 helicopters like the Chinook and Mi-17. Huge crowds, including local residents and school students, gathered along the ghats and bridges to witness the 25 flight formations above the river.
