Hyderabad: The State Art Gallery in Madhapur recently transformed into a vibrant hub of culture as French performance group La Voyage de Rézé presented an engaging showcase of music, storytelling, and live illustrations. During the one-hour production, the four-member ensemble delivered an immersive experience where original compositions and cross-cultural melodies were paired with real-time visual art projected onto a stage screen.
Presented by the French Institute in India alongside the Alliance Française de Hyderabad, the event moved away from traditional concert formats. While the musicians performed a mix of familiar tunes, original pieces, and lesser-known works, an artist simultaneously created sketches that evolved with the music, offering a poetic and colorful journey for viewers of all ages.
The group avoids a rigid narrative, allowing the performance to unfold organically through sound and imagery. The quartet features Rézé on guitar, vocals, and composition, drawing from jazz, African, and Brazilian traditions shaped by his extensive travels across continents, including hitchhiking through West Africa in his youth.
He is joined by Soifran on percussion and vocals, bringing Afro-Cuban and Brazilian rhythms to the ensemble. Meanwhile, Emé contributes live stage illustrations, and Christoo manages video projections, photography, and overall artistic production.
In Hyderabad, this collaborative approach allowed the audience to experience music visually as observations and imagined encounters took shape on screen. The event successfully bridged multiple artistic mediums, creating a shared cross-cultural connection for everyone in attendance.
