The Delhi Police's Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations unit has taken over the investigation into a widely circulated video that reportedly shows a content creator subjecting a young man from Tripura to racial abuse and humiliation. Officials confirmed the development following formal requests from the Special Police Unit for North Eastern Region.
Authorities visited the residential address of the individual identified as the content creator, Amir Shokeen, but a senior police official stated that he was found to be absconding. The investigation follows intense public backlash and condemnation across social media platforms, drawing calls for strict legal measures from prominent political figures including Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha.
In a statement posted online, Minister Rijiju asserted that the accused would face consequences, noting that despite an initial delay in filing an official complaint, both the Delhi and Tripura police forces would ensure a firm response. The Tripura Students Forum Delhi filed a formal complaint requesting a comprehensive and impartial probe into the footage, which they alleged depicted sexual assault, harassment, and humiliating treatment directed at a native of Tripura.
The student organization pointed authorities toward an Instagram account allegedly connected to the incident, demanding verification of the operator's identity alongside anyone else involved in recording or participating in the event. Their grievance highlighted racially derogatory remarks and disparaging comments regarding Tripura within the video, which they argued deeply distressed the regional community.
Furthermore, the forum urged law enforcement to secure all relevant digital evidence, such as the original file, metadata, profile information, and upload history, while safeguarding the victim from ongoing harassment. Tripura Chief Minister Saha previously instructed the State Director General of Police to liaise directly with Delhi law enforcement concerning the incident, as leaders from various political backgrounds continue demanding accountability. The specialized police unit is actively reviewing the evidence as inquiries proceed.
