Tiruppur: An AIADMK councillor in Tiruppur came up with an unusual protest and celebratory initiative by offering free tickets to the Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2 to residents who clicked and shared selfies during unannounced power cuts. The move aimed to highlight the growing issue of power outages while engaging with locals in the ward.
The councillor used a WhatsApp group to announce the offer, asking residents of his ward to document the darkness in their homes with a photograph. The campaign drew a strong response, prompting the selection of 55 local residents along with a family member each, totaling 110 people. Additionally, 15 local party functionaries were included, bringing the final tally of ticket recipients to 125.
The special screening was organized to coincide with the 55th founding anniversary of the AIADMK. The selected group was taken together to a cinema hall located in the Angeripalayam area of Tiruppur to enjoy the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial.
While providing an entertainment incentive through the blockbuster film, the campaign served as a localized strategy to draw public attention to the frequent electricity interruptions affecting the region. Jailer 2, which boasts a star-studded cast including Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, and others, has continued its strong theatrical run and box office performance.
