Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s screen time in Jailer 2 has sparked disappointment among admirers, raising questions about why the actor’s appearance in the Rajinikanth-starrer was significantly curtailed. The ongoing discussion intensified after Mohanlal’s personal stylist and costume designer, Jishad Shamsudeen, publicly claimed that three distinct looks prepared for the actor were completely removed from the final theatrical version. He further alleged that a specific scene featuring Mohanlal, which had appeared in the promotional trailer, was also edited out.

Jishad's comments added fuel to ongoing debates among supporters who had anticipated a more substantial presence for the superstar alongside Rajinikanth in the sequel. His open criticism of the editorial choices, alongside his declaration that he would decline to work on any potential third installment, has focused renewed attention on Mohanlal's actual footprint in the movie.

Following the theatrical premiere of Jailer 2, Jishad Shamsudeen voiced his grievances on social media. He explained that he had remained entirely confident in the styling team's efforts despite his initial disappointment when the actor's appearance was reduced to a fleeting glimpse in the promotional trailer. However, once the feature film hit screens, he discovered that three separate looks had been excised entirely and the trailer scene was truncated.

Questioning the rationale behind cutting scenes involving a major performer, Jishad stated that he would disassociate himself from future projects in the franchise. He emphasized that his loyalty to the actor and his supporters superseded commercial metrics, box office milestones, and industry profits. Notably, the stylist's remarks did not address the specific narrative, creative, or runtime factors that might have motivated the filmmakers to trim the footage.

In tandem with the stylist's revelations, numerous fans took to digital platforms to voice their dissatisfaction over Mohanlal's brief role as Mathew, a character whose appearance in the original Jailer movie had generated immense excitement. Some social media users questioned the decision to bring back the actor for a minimal contribution, while others implored him to avoid brief cameo roles in upcoming cinematic projects. The filmmakers have not yet issued a public response addressing the stylist's allegations.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 stars Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian alongside returning cast members like Ramya Krishnan, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff. The expansive ensemble features performers such as Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Mithun Chakraborty, accompanied by special appearances from Hrithik Roshan and others. Produced by Sun Pictures with music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Vijay Kartik Kannan, and editing by R Nirmal, the action drama arrived in theaters on October 15.
