BJP Protests Against Congress in Delhi, Bengaluru; Demands MP's Suspension After JNU Dismissal
The Bharatiya Janata Party staged demonstrations in Delhi and Bengaluru against the Congress party following allegations of sexual harassment against Congress Lok Sabha MP and professor Bimol Akoijam. The protests erupted after Jawaharlal Nehru University dismissed him from service following complaints filed by 11 female students alleging sexually explicit remarks, inappropriate conduct, and seeking sexual favours. Demonstrators led by women leaders gathered near the Congress headquarters in New Delhi, holding placards and questioning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his anti-patriarchy campaign. Protesters demanded the MP's expulsion from the party and suspension from Parliament, stating that university termination alone is insufficient. An FIR has also been registered in connection with the charges. Akoijam has dismissed the allegations as politically motivated and labelled the actions against him a witch hunt. Meanwhile, the Congress party has maintained silence over the demands as protests and political confrontation intensify.
