New Delhi: An employee who had arranged travel tickets to spend the Dussehra festival with his relatives in his native place now faces uncertainty regarding his trip following a sudden performance review and subsequent leave denial. The worker, who is employed at a retail firm in Bengaluru and has been with the company for four months, had spent five thousand rupees on advance bookings to visit home before management intervened.

The situation came to light through a social media post on Reddit where the distressed worker detailed how his supervisor evaluated his output as falling short of expectations and immediately initiated a performance improvement plan. When the employee subsequently requested a brief two-day break to celebrate the upcoming festival with his family, the manager refused the time off on the grounds that employees undergoing performance reviews are ineligible for leave.

According to the affected worker, he has not received formal written documentation regarding the performance review status, and noted that his manager had previously blocked a prior leave request even before any performance concerns were raised. Expressing deep confusion and stress, the employee mentioned that he has not been able to visit his hometown for an extended period and that his parents were eagerly anticipating his visit.

Responses on the platform poured in from various users who urged the worker to reconsider his priorities, with some advising him to disregard the manager's refusal and travel home anyway while preparing for potential career transitions. Other commenters suggested treating the situation as an indicator to begin searching for alternative employment, noting that performance improvement plans often precede termination and rarely result in favorable outcomes for the employee.
