New Delhi: Congress parliamentarian Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has responded to a formal notice issued by the Delhi Police, confirming that he intends to cooperate with an ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual harassment. The police notice was delivered electronically and served directly at his residence after an official first information report was registered in connection with incidents dating back to his tenure at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Several female students previously came forward with complaints against the former professor, alleging that he invited them to his campus living quarters where he attempted sexual harassment. The complainants also accused him of making inappropriate remarks during classroom lectures.
Mr Akoijam has firmly rejected the accusations, dismissing them as completely false. Having traveled from Imphal to the national capital, the lawmaker has communicated through email that he plans to present himself before the investigating officers for questioning on either October 15 or October 16.
