During a media briefing directed at opposition figures, representatives of the Bharatiya Janata Party drew attention to reported instances of violence against women police personnel, questioning the circumstances surrounding the removal of their official badges. The discussion also shifted toward a significant judicial decision delivered by the Supreme Court.
The apex court formally upheld a previous verdict by the Andhra Pradesh High Court, ruling that any person who converts to Christianity or Islam cannot be classified as a member of a Scheduled Caste. Consequently, such individuals forfeit reservation benefits and protections provided under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The court reaffirmed that statutory Scheduled Caste status remains restricted strictly to individuals who profess Hinduism, Sikhism, or Buddhism.
