A thirty-year-old technology professional in Gurugram allegedly took his own life after killing his wife, leaving behind an email to his employer that declared, "We are leaving this world." The bodies of Mohammad Aslam and his wife Farhana were discovered on Wednesday inside their rented apartment located in the M3M Marina residential society, which coincided with Farhana's birthday.
The couple, both tech professionals originally from Kerala, had relocated to Gurugram from Bengaluru approximately three months prior to the incident. Investigators recovering from the scene also found a handwritten note bearing the same phrase, "We are leaving this world." While Aslam's body was discovered hanging, Farhana was found lifeless on the floor with visible injuries to her neck. Additionally, the phrase "I love you" was written by hand on her clothing.
The grim discovery was made by the couple's landlord, who had been alerted by Aslam's concerned colleagues. Upon arrival, the apartment door was found unlocked. Local law enforcement seized three laptops, two mobile phones, a rope, a diary, a pair of scissors, and a pen drive from the flat. All recovered items have been dispatched for forensic analysis as investigators work to reconstruct the timeline of events.
Preliminary findings lead authorities to suspect that Aslam killed his wife before ending his own life. A formal murder case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Relatives indicated that the couple appeared close and that no prior marital discord had been reported, though they noted Aslam had been undergoing medical treatment for depression for about a year and a half. Family members have further suggested that high work-related stress might have played a role in the tragedy, while police continue to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Aslam was an alumnus of the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, and the Indian Institute of Management, Indore. Farhana was similarly employed in the IT sector and worked remotely from home.
