Ryanair is considering a temporary wage freeze for staff to help offset a sharp escalation in fuel expenditures that have surged in the wake of the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran.
Management at the airline stated that fuel prices are anticipated to remain exceptionally high well into 2027 unless a quick resolution to the ongoing war is achieved.
According to the carrier's projections, its short-term fuel bill is expected to climb by €2 billion, prompting expectations that European airfares will rise to assist in covering the financial burden.
However, the company indicated that higher ticket prices alone are unlikely to suffice, leading executives to evaluate several mitigation strategies, including temporary freezes on employee compensation. Representatives for the airline noted that the situation requires careful financial management across all operational areas.
In response to these developments, media outlets have reached out to Unite, the labor union representing Ryanair employees, to obtain a formal response regarding the potential wage measures.
