New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki's popular compact sedan, the Dzire, has crossed the 35 lakh cumulative production milestone in India, nearly 19 years after its initial introduction. The model has officially joined the Alto, Swift, and WagonR as the fourth car from Maruti Suzuki to achieve this significant manufacturing feat.

The Dzire reached the milestone in approximately 18 years and nine months. Built at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar manufacturing facility, the vehicle continues to maintain its status as one of the company's most successful offerings across both domestic and international markets.

Production growth for the sedan has accelerated notably over the years. The vehicle crossed the 10 lakh production mark in April 2015, advanced to 20 lakh units in June 2019, and reached 30 lakh units by December 2024. While the initial 10 lakh units required seven years and three months to manufacture, the most recent 10 lakh units were completed in just four years and four months, highlighting a steady and strong demand for the sedan.

Maruti Suzuki Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi noted that the milestone reflects the enduring trust of customers across four generations of the vehicle. He stated that the sedan has managed to stay relevant for nearly two decades by adapting to shifting consumer preferences while keeping its fundamental strengths of style, comfort, and practicality intact. Currently, the company identifies the Dzire as India's highest-selling passenger vehicle, and it also stands as the first sedan to earn a 5-star safety rating under Bharat NCAP. Internationally, the model ranked among the brand's top five export vehicles in the previous financial year.

The fourth-generation version of the sedan was introduced in November 2024, bringing a refreshed exterior appearance, upgraded dual-tone interior styling, and a suite of modern features. Furthermore, Maruti Suzuki recently expanded the lineup with an automatic S-CNG variant, which the manufacturer highlights as the country's most fuel-efficient sedan with a rated efficiency of 36.47 kilometers per kilogram. Through these developments, the consistent market performance of the Dzire has secured its leadership position in the Indian sedan segment for 19 consecutive years.
