New Delhi: High drama unfolded in central Delhi as scores of protesters from left-wing student organisations, including the All India Students' Association and the Students' Federation of India, staged flash protests around Connaught Place and Janpath while attempting to march towards Jantar Mantar. The demonstrators raised slogans against the Chief Election Commissioner before being intercepted by security forces.
A massive security deployment, comprising the Delhi Police, a women's battalion from the Uttar Pradesh Police, and the Rapid Action Force, formed human shields and barricaded routes to halt the march. Authorities enforced Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita in the area, carrying out preventive detentions and moving the demonstrators into police buses.
